Candle Care

For the safest, cleanest, and most beautiful burn.

Every True Faith Naturals candle is prepared by hand, with the wick trimmed and ready for the very first burn. Following these care steps will ensure your candle performs exactly as designed — clean, even, and long-lasting.

1. Your Candle Arrives Ready to Light

Your wick is already trimmed to the ideal length (¼ inch for cotton wicks and proper height for wooden wicks).

For the very first burn, do NOT trim the wick.
Simply light and enjoy.

Future trimming happens only between burns, not before the first use.

2. Wick Care — Cotton (CD) vs. Wooden Wicks

For Cotton CD Wicks:

Before each subsequent burn (not the first):

  • Trim to ¼ inch
  • This keeps the flame clean, safe, and steady
  • Prevents soot and mushrooming

For Wooden Wicks:

Wooden wicks burn differently:

After each burn:

  • Pinch or gently remove the black char at the top
  • Do NOT cut with scissors (this can make it too short)
  • The wick should stay at roughly the same height you received it

Proper wick care = better flame, cleaner burn, longer candle life.

3. Allow a Full Melt Pool (First Burn)

Let your candle burn long enough for the entire top layer of wax to melt from edge to edge — usually 2–3 hours.

This ensures:

  • Even burning
  • Stronger scent throw
  • No tunneling
  • Maximum candle lifespan

Your candles are formulated to prevent tunneling when burned correctly.

4. Do Not Burn Longer Than 4 Hours

After 4 hours:

  • Safely extinguish the flame
  • Allow it to cool
  • Trim or clean the wick before the next burn

Long burns can overheat the jar and affect the wax quality.

5. Burn on a Stable, Heat-Safe Surface

Keep away from:

  • Drafts
  • Open windows
  • Fans
  • Vents
  • Curtains
  • Children and pets

A stable environment ensures an even flame and a safe experience.

6. Keep Your Melt Pool Clean

Remove any:

  • Wick trimmings
  • Dust
  • Matches
  • Debris

A clean melt pool = a clean, long-lasting candle.

7. Stop Burning at ½ Inch of Wax Left

This protects the jar from overheating and ensures safe use.

Once you're at the last ½ inch:

  • Extinguish
  • Clean the jar
  • Repurpose it (ideas below!)

8. Repurpose Your Beautiful Jar

Your jars are designed for a life beyond the candle.

How to Recycle or Repurpose Your Jar

We encourage giving every jar a second life. It’s simple!

To Clean Your Jar:

  1. Let leftover wax cool and harden
  2. Place the jar in the freezer for 1–2 hours
  3. Pop out the wax and wick tab
  4. Wash the jar with warm, soapy water
  5. Dry thoroughly

Repurpose Ideas:

  • Bathroom storage (cotton pads, Q-Tips)
  • Makeup brush holder
  • Mini planter for herbs or succulents
  • Desk organizer
  • Tea light holder
  • Small treat jar
  • Scripture verse jar with folded blessings

True Faith Naturals jars are too beautiful to throw away — let your creativity shine.
